Good to hear your "voice" again. :-) And, thank you for the compliment!
My setup was simple. The Olympus EM-1 Mk II and the Pana/Leica 100-400
Vario-Elmar on a tripod. FL was set to around 300 mm, to minimize star
trails.
During the partial phase, AF worked very well. The total eclipse phase
required manual focus and the magnifier feature was a great help, 'cause it
was dark!
My mistake was choosing an ISO of 800. 400mm and ISO 1600 would have been
better, in the for while m43 sensors do well in decent and even lousy
light, at such low light level, they do suffer from noise (as compared to a
FF camera).
But I was in a hurry to beat the clouds, and forgot to use the 400 rule.
Which is to say, to avoid star trails or general blurriness caused by the
rotation of the earth, divide 500 by the EFFECTIVE focal length to get the
longest useable shutter speed. Anything longer will result in a blurred
image. In fact, Fred Espenak recommends 320, but 400 works well, in my
experience. The this rule is sometimes seen as the 500 or even 600 rule,
but 400 is safer.
So, my images of totality show some blur, caused by the 1.3 second
exposure. (You can most easily see it in the star trails.)
Oh, and my exp. compensation was set to -2EV, for without that, the
camera's meter wants to expose the moon so it looks like daylight, meaning
longer exposures and more blur, not to mention an odd looking moon!
