Hi Andy. For me the real hangup is not buying the camera so much as
investing in all the life support for it: a really powerful PC, matching
investment in the monitor; legit licensed Photoshop, training materials,
excellent printer, something well above consumer grade, etc. Then the
reality: can you really make money doing this? I think every minute you are
not shooting you need to be out there generating business , which involves
contact with people, building relationships....not slaving over a tray in
the dark... or in front of a PC monitor.

This is where I think the opportunity might lie for someone who really
enjoys this work, to buy the gear and become really skilled at using it and
then support a group of photographers.

Shooters should shoot, it is what they are good at , sales and marketing
types do their thing and get bookings.... and lab rats, ditto. It has been
several generations now that wedding or baby photogs and other busy pros
went into the darkroom to print their own photos ( I did this as a kid, in
black and white)..... so why on earth does anyone think this is a good idea
now?
