My experience is that they've declined in performance over time;
relying on auto focus systems to do the job.
Never had a problem with:
Nikon F series (bright and accurate)
Leica R8 (brighter and accurate)
Leica R3 (just okay - dim though accurate)
Hasselblad C series (dim - though focused on a 39CFV back perfectly)
Meaning that what I expected to be in focus - was in focus.
Nikon 8 seriers sucked for manual focus
Canon 10D, 20D, 5D suck for manual focus
