Last fall, we buried our friend, Dennis, a victim of Pancreatic Cancer. He'd
been the most popular President of Rose's horse club, in decades.
Another member, Dan, is suffering from some sort of Palsy. I'm not privy to
the details, but his wife tells me that it will progress in to dementia and
then alzheimers, within a few years. He is no longer able to work... at
least, not paid work.
So, I want to tell you a little story of dedication and commitment.
Some of you may remember last spring, when I posted photos of the flooding at
the Horse club.
The flooding destroyed a bridge across the creek, which was used by horses &
riders to access the trails that go for hundreds of miles.
Last summer, Dan decided he'd build a replacement and call it Woody's
Crossing, in Dennis' honour. It was to be a one-man project and he's
declined all offers of help.
He felled two trees, and hauled them into position, across the creek, using a
combination of his truck and a "come-along". He then felled another and from
that he milled heavy boards, which he then took home, for the winter, to cure.
In the last few days, the bridge has gone from two tree trunks across the
creek, to this...

I've been taking photos of it, every few days, during times of progress, and
will give him a full set, when it's all said and done. And, he's making
remarkable progress.
I don't know which to admire more ... Dan, or his bridge.
