I’ll chime in on Boxing Day, too, and add that it seems to also be celebrated
throughout the Caribbean in those islands formerly of the Commonwealth and
those that are still territories and colonies. My first experience with the
event was while working on Grand Cayman during the 1980s and 1990s. A lovely
holiday in my opinion - a nice way to ease back into the work week after the
excesses of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. 😀👍

We got up early and drove from Yosemite to my father-in-law in SoCal, so
we were just on the road all day long. Not nearly as exciting.

So what does "Boxing Day" mean?
It seems nobody knows, for sure, but there are many competing theories. But
the one I grew up with, was that the Lord of the manor and his family had
their Christmas, and the servants were on duty as usual. The next day, the
servants got the day off, and the Lord of the manor distributed their gifts
(boxes) ... equivalent to today's Christmas Bonuses. Hence the name.
Boxing Day is a secular holiday, celebrated in, among others, Canada, the UK,
Northern Ireland, Ireland (where it is called "St. Stephen's Day), Hong Kong,
Australia & New Zealand as well as Trinidad & Tobago.
