Hi Dave!

I am truly torn... I am very pleased with the 20D. It delivers amazing
photo quality for the price and has a reasonable build quality, though
certainly, it ain't no Leica!

I tend to see "long" - and have used a 85 or 90mm lens as a 'standard'
for some 40 years. (This may explain my love of the 80~200/4 Vario!) I
rarely use w/a lenses, and when I do, it's because my back is against a
wall or a cliff, and I have no choice. The only w/a I own is the 21SA,
'cause it will bail me out in such situations.

Of course on the LeiCanon, with it's 1.6 crop factor, the 21 is
virtually a 35. :-(

On the plus side, the 1.6 crop factor means that the vignetting problem
of the 400 Telyt with 2X TC is solved. All the vignetting is outside
the sensors area and the shots look GREAT!

So the debate raging in my mind is do I:

1) stay with the 20D and buy the 10~22mm Canon w/a zoom to solve my w/a
problem?
or
2) move to the new full-frame 5D so that my 21SA will work as I expect
(and take my chances with the 400+2x vignetting)?
or
3) save my pennies for the DM-R where my 21 will work like a 28mm and
live with 'some' vignetting at the 800mm end?

The decision becomes complicated, because the quality of colour/detail I
see in some of the DM-R shots is often startling, compared to the Canon
bodies... but cost, short battery life, size and weight still temper my
enthusiasm. Raw (.dng) files that are twice the size of the Canon's raw
(.CR2) files are a factor too, for they mean carrying more cards with you.

Lastly, I agree that the Canon's autofocus is not "all that" - but I'm
fascinated by your wish for a split screen rangefinder.... the first
thing I do with any 'R' camera is get rid of the standard screen, and go
with the all matte one! (Mind you, I cheat... I use the matte screen
with grid lines... a great 'cheat' to help keep horizons level!)

Cheers!
