Xavier,

I know that I'll get some flack on this one, but, over the years, I've used several cameras and always gravitated to my favorites, Leica & Nikon.

I started out with Nikon, and sometimes I regret changing... the old Nikon F was durable beyond belief!

But every time I compare the photos taken with the Nikon to those taken with the Leitz/Leica glass, I remember why I changed!

I also owned the Tamron 24 (both versions) and it was a good little performer, not unlike the Takumar 24. But no comparison in either sharpness (esp. in the corners) evenness of illumination or contrast. Besides, it focused backwards! The SA-21/4 that replaced it in my kit, is a much older design, but so much better it does not even rate comparison!

After all that is said, I do still regularly use my Nikons on a daily basis, mostly because my F4's fit my big mitts better than the leicas. ( It's a personal, ergonomic preference).

You are obviously using an R4 through R7, Art. Like you, I have big "mitts". The R8 is not that much heavier than the R7, but in a side by side, it looks huge! However, it is the best camera for a large handed man to hold and to use, that I've ever seen! All the controls fall under your fingers, where you'd expect them to be.

And these days, an R8 can be had remarkably inexpensively! I'm not saying change, but I am suggesting it would be worth your while to check one out, if you haven't already done so.

Of course, the alternative for those who like BIG bodies is the SL or SL-2. Just ask Doug!

Cheers!
