Great story, Neil, about your wife and the wheel hub. Glad there was no
serious damage, especially to her. Could have been a disaster!
I never cared for the MGB-GT, because I'm 6'2", and I don't fit in one. Period.
I much preferred Tom's earlier, Citroen SM.
In fact, the only British sports car that I ever fit in, comfortably, is the
Triumph TR-6.
Another car I did not fit in was a buddy's Lotus Europa. As Bruce said, he
could carry a bag of groceries, or his wife, but not both.
One evening, a group of us were all visiting a mutual friend, when we heard a
loud crash.
A drunk had come whistling around the corner, in a large Chrysler, bounced off
a car, then a telephone pole and finally, crashed into Bruce's Europa.
Being an unfair fight, the Lotus lost badly and, with it's nearly entirely
fiberglass body, was a write off.
We salvaged what passed for a trunk in the Lotus, and as it, too, was
fiberglass, we did a little patching and turned it into a rather nice, darkroom
sink!

Hi David,------
Excellent insight into these constant project vehicles!
My wife always wanted to have an MGB-GT because she loved the look of
the car. I was less enthusiastic because of my past experience with
Little British Cars (a '59 Austin Healy Sprite) and the extra weight of
the GT which made it tail-heavy. But, we stumbled on a '69 MGC-GT, and I
decided that I could be the pit crew on such a rarity. My wife was
disappointed that the car lacked a radio and thought I was kidding when
I told her she needed to listen for parts falling off the car.
That is, until one day she was driving along and heard something fall
off that turned out to be the wheel hub nut followed shortly by a wire
wheel! Fortunately, it was on a local street so she was going slowly at
the time and there was no damage.

As a friend of mine used to say about his MGB-GT, "Every part that
falls off this car is of the finest British workmanship."
