David, After the certification flight test of the Boeing 777-200 IGW (increased gross weight) in the mid 90s, we rented a Ford Explorer to drive to Alaska. Of course in such a trip leaving from Seattle you spend most of the time in BC, and one of many wonderful surprises on the trip for myself and my Swiss born wife was driving into this smallish town wondering if there was anyplace nice to eat, and finding the best Swiss restaurant we've ever eaten in, complete with a Swiss Touring Club medallion on the front lawn. BTW we got as far as Fairbanks, but it was September and incoming heavy snow stopped us from going up the haul road to Prudhoe Bay. After that we turned east and saw Eagle and Chicken, Dawson City, and Whitehorse. Need to scan all those slides. Cheers,
Good Morning, Charlie! With such a recommendation we will, indeed, go the "Happy Landing" restaurant, next time we're in 100 Mile House. We might even make a special trip, as 100 Mile is just a 2 hour drive from us.
With a name like Happy Landing, is it aviation themed?Sounds as if it was an interesting trip! I'm unfamiliar with Eagle, but I do know Chicken. Fairbanks & most of the panhandle. Of course anywhere in the Yukon is familiar to me, for, in 1966-1967, I was the manager of the photo department, with a staff of 5 under me, in the then-dominant store in Whitehorse, Hougen's; at the tender age of 19. It was there that I first met Rose ... my wife of the last dozen years.
And you do, indeed, need to scan those slides ... I'd love to see some of them! Thanks for the story, and the recommendation! :-) Cheers! --- David Young Logan Lake, Canada. Wildlife Photos: www.furnfeather.net Rodeo Photos: www.galleries.furnfeather.net Personal Website: www.main.furnfeather.net
