re: I have a question about the 14160 filter ring for series 6
filters... Are they supposed to still be easily available at Leica
dealers? If it is not the case, is there a generic replacement available
or am I stuck with ebay to get one? (Mike)
I second advice on using KEH to obtain the ring. Also to obtain series
VI filters. Also http://www.pacificrimcamera.com/
More info ...
The threads for the adapter ring are 44mm ... meaning you might find a
screw-in filter that size (difficult)
Leica has produced very nice polarizing filters in the 44mm size, which
you can occasionally find. Seems to me the best is the circular version
(why would anyone want a linear polarizer?) and it's catalog number
13353. (13358 is the linear model) The adapter ring can't accommodate
rotation of a simple series VI polarizer, should you ever be able to
find one, so this is the polarizer you need, and it's used without the
adapter ring. The lens hood fits over 13353 nicely, of course.
