G'Mornin' Peter!
Yes. My EM-1 does it too. It is, as Godfrey said, it is the IBIS system
shutting down, and locking the sensor in place to protect it from damage,
whilst off. I have become so used to it, that I don't think about it. To the
point where I had to go, get my camera and turn it on, then off, while holding
it near my ear!
As for the the identification of people, I use GIMP (the free, open source
alternative to Photoshop). Using the Lasso tool, I select the people involved,
then invert the selection. I then reduce contrast and/or opacity, to make the
rest of the photo mostly "fade away" and ,thus, highlight the people. Then, I
add text, placing the numbers for the key over each face.
Ancient Japanese proverb says "Simple, when know how."
Good luck!
David.
Good morning, folks. I have two questions that I sure would appreciate
y'all's help with.
For those of you that use Oly OM-D units, particularly the E-M1, when you
power down your Oly does it make a "thump" noise and vibration?
I have experienced such ever since I received the unit last year. Its
kinda like the sound and feel of a mirror return on an old slr when the
shutter was activated; but I know the Oly E-M1 is mirror-less. Any
thoughts on the cause - is it a potential service problem or just a
quirk with the camera's normal behavior?
The second question is about digital editing. I've noticed over the years,
particularly in National Geographic publications, that in images where there
are group photos they put two images side by side, one with the clear image
of the group and the second a white-out image showing the outlines of the
individuals and a number where their face would be. It's a wonderful method
of identifying individuals in a group and I would really like to find out how
to do it. Has anyone around here ever used or performed the procedure? If so,
could you please let me know how you did it? Thank you.
Best regards,
Peter Stevens
