Good Day Ted, good day Flexers,

My title is mostly word to word translation of a french expression.

By this, the Frenches had endless debates of what is suitable and what is able
to bring much pride to the contributor.

Well, the old way we used the camera is still vivid in my heart, as you Ted. In
those time we were supported by Chemists engineers with stains on their white
blouse.
They spent hours in the dark to bring up the TriX, the Velvia, etc. Not to
mention the time we personnaly spent in a tiny scented lab with the Ilford
Multigrade paper or the Brome or the Sepia colored tones.

And of course, the idea was to take the picture with perfectly computed Lenses
by Leica Engineers.

Today, well, the chemistry has turned into a cabalistic Digital JPEG, Raw, PS6,
SilkyPix. The Tools are obviously based on the 'Bit' combined in Zillions to
form a 12MPix images.

And of course, because there are 'near Endless' combinations of process, it is
possible to combine fragments of images to produce another one.
For instance, Google Earth software is a vibrant example of the combination.
And thus is the Stacking Focusing combination.

The result is not as perfect as it seems in the eye, agreed. But in 1900,
often, the portraits were presented in a round or oval mount as the lenses were
a wee bit soft on the edges. Thanks to Leica, the corners have become sharp!

Still, Ted, I agree with you on one point, a good photo is probably the
encounter of a good light on a appealing subject and some one who embraces the
field and is able to reproduce and to abstract for the others to 'see'.
The photographic eye, if we can call it.

During those years reading this list, I had the chance to watch great
contributions, though I have not provided much.
While being a Softie or Software Programmer, I find the Digital Area a bit
strange as I cannot separate the tool (camera + applications) to what I'm
supposed to do with it (lack of photographic eye?).

Well, sorry for this long and probably tired sad looking post. Still, the
subject brought by David was really new to me.

Cheers.

DAVID OLD FRIEND. J

Now how many clocks & watches are you going to photograph
now that you've learned all this new stuff that more than likely you'll forget
before you get to your 56th year of having fun with photography? It's a
joke question? J

I doubt very much if we brought my start time at " HAVING
HAPPY & MAGICAL MOMENTS" from 65 years ago with photography and being
a photographer up to today. If I had to learn all this new techie stuff
you lads git all hung-up on these days. J I mean 65 years ago I
had a hard time just loading the camera without fogging the film! J Let
alone all this stuff that is supposed to make a "watch look better?" ;-)
By stacking? The watches??????? ;-)

ONE LAST QUESTION? if all this gobbledee-gook stuff is
necessary to use these days because some techie type figured out

"A twiddle-dee-do thing - me bobber" that makes a
watch look rounder or whatever? Is it really going to get people all that more
excited at how wonderful your motor bike racing photos on ice in the winter? Or
those magnificent rodeo events you cover and capture such incredible photo
moments of cowboys in action? ?? ;-) ;-) ;-)

Yeah I thought so. J J
We who are lovers of LEICA cameras like stacking them! J Yeah
I know "we're all a little brain short" ;-) Now that's
something I can understand and get great thrills the more we stack. But that is
an "honourable stacking event" that doesn't take very much brain
power to figure out the greatness of the power image of them all stacked up one
on top of the other. That kind of "STACKING I UNDERSTAND!" J

Be nice now when you respond cause we're friends! Aren't we
still? ;-) ;-)

cheers,

Dr. ted J J

Fellow Flexers...

Aram, has been kind enough to run my 8 watch images through his PS-6, so we can

all compare the results with CombineZP.

Those interested can see the results from the same images on both programs,

There are differences, but they are, I think, minor. I'll let you draw your own

conclusions.

I've learned a lot, in the last few days - and I've been a photographer for

nearly 55 years!

Who says you can't teach an old dog, new tricks? I hope some of you have

learned along with me!

C&C welcomed, as always.

David.
