All:

I have been taking photos since I was 14, and was always a so-so picture taker. Then, about a decade ago, I met a guy who became a good friend. He tore my photos apart ... not to insult, but to help me do it better. It took me a long time, before I could get even a grudging "That's OK" out of him. But my photography improved more, in 3 or 4 years, than it had in the previous 30. And, thanks to his help, it continues to improve. That man was Ted Grant.

"The eye of an artist, the concentration of a surgeon and the reflexes of a cat". That's what it says on the cover of Ted Grant's film, "The Art of Observation".

I picked up my DVD at the post office, an hour ago, and ran right home to watch it.

This film should be required viewing for every photographer. If you can catch it on Bravo!, the Knowledge Network, or any of the other networks it may be shown on, great.

If not, talk to Ted about getting a copy on DVD. At $25 it's not expensive, it's beautifully produced and the film is one you'll watch time after time. I know I will. I'm already looking forward to watching it again, this evening, with Rose.

I don't care if you buy it, or watch it on TV. But you must see it.

I don't know of a photographer who won't learn from it.
