Today while sippingcoffee, I was reading the pages of endless exchange on the
forum from the French site: Chasseur d'images.
For you in UK you have an equivalent, "Popular Photography". It may even exists
across the Pond.
The point of the topic was that such lens is better than other, comparing an
APSC 18mm (28mm in Leica Traditional Measure, LTM in short) against a 60mm
(90mm in LTM).
Of course the 60mm won hands up in the test while users would express the
quality of the wideangle 18mm.
The point is that they were comparing the lens on the same camera with a fixed
number of pixels, saying as well that wiith the new model having a third more
resolutuion, they had improved.... Blah Blah.
As you have not grown from the last rain, neither do I and we "remember" our
Glorious past. There was a time when we adjusted the "grain" of the film
according to the need.
And I was always happy to use a KODAK TMAX 3200 at 1600 ISO on a Camera mounted
with a Wide Angle such as the Super Angulon 21mm. But honnestly, only me would
look at the images, how to squeeze so many détails on a photosite the size of a
semolina grain?
However using the Provia 100F, the super Angulon would put out interesting
images, capturing a _lot_ of détails.
As a Conclusion: the large field of view on a lens will create a
"impressionism" effect on a sensor except if the sensor can squeeze in more.
And then the limitation comes from your screen.
