Doug great stuff as always Kevin Douglas Herr <telyt@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Taylor Creek in the fall is the site of the annual run of Kokanee Salmon. The Kokanee is an inland Salmon, about the size of a large trout. This species was introduced to Lake Tahoe in the middle of the 1900s. http://www.wildlightphoto.com/fish/kosa00.jpg Numerous animals come to Taylor Creek to feast on the salmon, including Black Bear and Bald Eagles. Also found on Taylor Creek and eating smaller fish is the Common Merganser: http://www.wildlightphoto.com/birds/anatidae/come07.html One fishing technique the mergansers use is to cruise the surface of the creek with the head submerged, searching for prey. Once a fish or invertebrate is found the duck dives and pursues at high speed. http://www.wildlightphoto.com/birds/anatidae/come09.html The technical stuff: Kokanee Salmon: Leica R4, 80-200mm f/4 Vario-Elmar-R, Circular polarizing filter, Kodak 400UC Common Merganser, hen: Leica R8, 280mm f/4 APO-Telyt-R, Kodak E100G More photos and info at http://www.wildlightphoto.com/birds/anatidae/comeinfo.html Doug Herr Birdman of Sacramento http://www.wildlightphoto.com ------ Unsubscribe or change to/from Digest Mode at: http://www3.telus.net/~telyt/lrflex.htm Archives are at: www.freelists.org/archives/leicareflex/ --------------------------------- Yahoo!
