Thomas Schofield asked: Subject: [LRflex] Re: Swishy Pan > What shutter speed do you use?<<<< Hi Tom, It varies in relation to the sport or speed of the subject. And how well you carry out the action of panning the camera. Because you have absolutely no idea how good or bad they'll be until looking at slides on the light table, or as suggested, the screen of the digital camera. I stop down to the smallest aperture and let the camera select the shutter speed, generally between a 1/15th to a 1/30th. Film speed or digital setting is usually asa 100. If one is shooting, say 100 meter races, the best location is about half way down the track sitting on the ground. Then pick the runners up in the viewfinder a they approach and pan with them as fast as they run by shooting just before they reach your position and pass you at right angles. Obviously all the while in smooth panning action. You can shoot one frame at a time, been there and tried it. Quite frankly that's living dangerously and will probably give you more throw aways than using the motor drive as you swing with the movement. But no matter how good you are, you must start and continue the "pan" with a complete follow through as though a golf swing. ted tedgrantphoto.com ------ Unsubscribe or change to/from Digest Mode at: http://www3.telus.net/~telyt/lrflex.htm Archives are at: //www.freelists.org/archives/leicareflex/
