"Very near" is all relative. Differences that seem insignificant to one photographer are huge to another. As far as cost is concerned, there isn't a lot of difference in initial outlay between top-of-the- line Nikon or Canon and Leica-R and the R gear historically has had a longer useful life and higher resale value. If nearly as good is good enough and if you're use of the equipment doesn't test the limits of durability then something less than top-of-the-line from a maker other than Leica is probably a better choice.
