I'm just speaking my mind, hoping that the comments make sense. Hi Dave, I'm really overwhelmed, and your comments almost made me doubt whether we speak about the same photo :-) I simply was lucky that day, being in the right place at the right time. I guess the scene is repeated daily and the picture(s) might get improved up to exhausting its potential. Everything is movement, movement is life, though very slow, and photography allows to fix a moment. If the moment is special, the picture may be as well. I coincide with you as for a respectful integration of the human being with the environment. Something our advanced civilization has lost irremediably... Your vision enhances the perception that I have myself about this picture, Dave. I thank you sincerely. Hey Marc; I can't get this picture out of my mind. I like the darker foreground, without the reflections of the sun, because the dhows seem to be part of the water or to "grow" out of the water. They're a bit mysterious and the great number of them and their order almost mimic waves on the ocean. Philosophically, I like themes that show man in harmony with nature. Somehow, a landscape is wonderful but when a landscape shows the fingerprint of humanity in it, a harmonious fingerprint (as opposed to a freeway or an open-pit mine) then we have a true work of art. In my opinion, this is a truly wonderful photograph and I hope that you print it, frame it and put it on your wall. To me, this is one of those really rare photographs that transcend the concept of "pretty picture". It tells a story and it depicts one of those truly grand themes that all art should be striving for. As I said, I can't get it out of my mind. I don't think that anyone, in his right mind, would ever tire of seeing it. Zanzibar ones are smaller than others I saw in Indonesia, and are used for fishing daytrip. I remember to count more than 60 dhows, sailing away at the time, so I think (and hope) they still will use ithem for a long time ;-) Thank you so much ! I really like the first picture. Wonderful...
