The problems arise with the handgrips that attach to the motor or winder. The R4 model winders (or motor) use only the original R4 handgrip, which has a mechanical connection between the handgrip's shutter release button and the winder/motor. This will not fit the R7 well because the R7 is taller than the R4 through R6. For the R7 a special model of the handgrip is used, that connects only with the R winder/motor (not the R4 winder/motor). The R winder has electrical contacts that work with the R or R7 handgrip's electrical shutter release. The R4 handgrip may be used on the R winder/motor, but the R handgrip won't do much good on the R4 motor/winder. However, the electrical contacts can be added to the R4 motor/winder to make it compatible with the R or R7 handgrip. FWIW I didn't like the handgrip. Its shape prevented me from reaching the shutter speed dial easily.
