The Minolta made 'R's, after the R3, do not use foam to damp the mirror, as the old Pentax's and Nikon's did. They use an air damper which works much better and does not deteriorate with age. Foam on the back door and film windows must be checked and replaced.

BTW: if any of you have a light leak in your 'R', around the film window, phone/mail/email Leica NJ with your model number and they'll send you a new one without charge. They're self-sticky and it's an easy DIY proposition.
