Not sure about that many modules, as it may make the camera [a] too big and/or [b] too expensive. However, your idea is great! Being practical (rather than just dreaming), imagine an R8 with the batteries, winder motor, etc., all placed where the film used to be. And imagine an interchangeable back, with the display, buttons, etc, and a small, extension, (say 3/8" or 10mm) below the base of the camera, which contained the chips that would be dedicated to a particular sensor. Then, as technology improves, rather than buying a new camera for $5000, you'd buy a new back, for say, half that. Given that Leica's are built for a 30+ year life, this would make it much more tenable for people (pros or amateurs) to buy into a $5000 camera which, while it may last forever, has a relatively short cycle before obsolescence. As camera technology improved, later camera models would have more features, etc, but still employ the same backs... essentially the Hasselblad system in a 35mm sized digital camera! If Leica want to shake up the market, I think that would do it. And I'd buy one!
