Recently David Young and I had an email conversation about the possibility of having digital R module workshops in the USA and Canada. David suggested that I contact Mr. Christian Erhardt of Leica USA and suggest that Leica indeed entertain a series of such work shops here. Mr. Erhardt has responded, and has given David permission to post his reply. Since David is involved with house buying and is limited in his computer access, David in turn has suggested that I take care of the details of posting the information. I have removed a few sentences that point out that Leica has a long waiting list for the digital module, but I think that the exact number on order should probably be up to Mr. Erhardt to reveal in a forum of his choosing. Let me say that the number is quite appreciable, and is very encouraging to those of us who support Leica. Note that Mr. Erhardt points out that Leica's first priority will be to supply those customers who are on the digital module waiting list. When the list is satisfied, modules will be available to present the course(s) noted above. Mr. Erhardt hopes to be able to give the course 3-4 months after regular delivery of the module begins. With the deletions I have noted, our exchange is reproduced for you all below. Elliot Sent: Saturday, March 05, 2005 9:47 PM To: Erhardt, Christian; David Young Subject: Hello Mr. Erhardt: I have noted that Leica is offering several courses on the new R Digital Module in Germany. Many of your dedicated Leica R users here have been waiting anxiously for the R Digital Module to be released. Now that the long wait appears over perhaps Leica would find it convenient to offer courses at several locations in America and Canada. I think the courses would be well attended, but Leica could easily determine interest by posting a statement of possible course offerings and locations on the Leica Forum and several "R User " web sites. If interest appears reasonable then Leica might consider offering the courses at a fee that would defray much of the entire cost. Indeed, it is entirely possible that Leica would incur very little out of pocket expenses, and Leica and their devoted adherents might benefit considerably. Best wishes, Dr. Elliot Puritz Mr. Erhardt replies: Thanks so much for your email. - Yes we are very much in favor of Digital workshops on the Digital Modul R. In fact we have already talked with a couple of photographers who are very knowledgeable when in comes to digital photography and would be able to do these workshops for us. - We are currently doing all the preparations to get this going as soon as possible. - As you can imagine, a Leica academy like the one in Germany will always have more sample units than we have and therefore we have so far only offered workshops in Germany. We expect to receive larger quantities of Digital Modul R's starting in late April. Early deliveries in April will be priorities for several venues in America and Canada. Therefore I expect to be able to offer workshops early summer to mid summer, as soon as we have more cameras in the market. ( As noted above, I have removed some of Mr. Erhardt's message at this point ). Thanks so much for your interest in Leica. If you have any questions I might be able to answer, please let me know. --- Best regards Christian Erhardt Leica Camera Inc. / Marketing Manager 156 Ludlow Ave. / Northvale, NJ 07647 / USA www.leicacamerausa.com / Christian.Erhardt@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Telephone: (+1) 201-767-7500-288 / Fax (+1) 201-767-8666 / Cell phone: (+1) 201-779-1482
