>> As for the tripod, you are, of course, right. But I think the shoulder stock of the 400 Telyt and a monopod might have been a great help.<<<< The shoulder brace and pistol grip wired to the motor is a God send shooting this type of action. I'm looking at getting a Canon cord adapted from the 20D to fit the Leica micro switch. Full tele, as I was at the far end of the rodeo arena. Hand held. ISO 1250.<<<<<< Hi David, Keep this up and youll be giving all the photogs in Calgary a run for the money shooting rodeo events! :-) Nice to see you stayed with the ride creating a sequence which is far more story telling than making it a one picture event. Once again excellent handling of the gear hand held. But shooting this type of action and putting the camera on a tripod is a total waste of time in most cases because animal and rider are all over the place and the photographer needs to have a free wheeling ability to capture whatever and wherever it happens. As you know in my Men of the Saddle book I shot with the 560 6.8 slide barrel focus. The hardest part was to mentally keep pushing the barrel forward as the animal and rider came closer to keep them in focus. Once again well done mon ami! ted Thanks, Ted, once again! As you can tell, I had fun at the Rodeo! I am sorry that I didn't have my 400/6.8 with me... but with the Merritt Rodeo (last year) and the Little Britches (last year and this) I'd found it overkill. For Barriere, it would have been easier to focus... at least faster. Oh well... I'll know, for next year! (Rose and I are already planning to go back - it's a great fair!) It's what I get for being lazy and wanting to "travel light"!
