Have one more suggestion, ... try f/4 instead of f/8, over the distance to the
moon the depth field at f/4 will be more than enough.

Thanks to all who have commented on my earlier hand held moon image.
Got up at 3 am to capture the bright moon high in the clear cold sky.
Bolted the Nikon D750 with the 200 - 55 VR zoom plus 1.4 extender
on to my sturdy manfrotto tripod. 1/2000 f8.0 spot metered on the moon
ISO 1600 mirror locked up before exposure.

So a tripod clearly out performs handheld VR. Please view large.
