Now I'm confused. I always thought that Elmar's were f4 and Elmarit's f2.8. After all, the only Elmar I've ever owned was the 90/4 Elmar-C for the Leica CL.
However, a quick look through Hove Photo's "Leica Pocket Book" (5th ed.) shows me to be very wrong.
Your 50/2.8 Elmar was made from '57 through '66, with some 65,000 made. Yours would appear to be a sterling example. and I look forward to seeing some of the results from it.
Thanks for sharing, your good fortune!

I'd more or less given up buying Leica kit as my cupboard was
overflowing already.
This beauty, however, was too good to pass up, given its provenance
and very reasonable price.
You can see a swift and dirty shot at:
http://corkflor.smugmug.com/Other/Camera-Kit/
This came from the estate of a well-known Berlin Leica collector, who
apparently spared no expense in ensuring all his pieces were in prime
condition.
Shots from its first workout will be posted when I have them. Test
shots look fine - very crisp with excellent colour rendition.
Best.
