Hi Gary. I'll be the first to chime in. I faced a similar dilemma a bit
more than a year ago. I was waiting but then my wife gave me an XTi for my
retirement. I bought some adapters and have had a love/hate relationship
with Leica/Canon hybrids. Glass - good as ever. Body - works fine with a
Canon lens, but less than ideal in many ways with Leica glass.

Viewfinder is small and hard to focus manually, but adapters with focus
confirmation help a lot. So does adding a Nikon (yes, Nikon) eyepiece
magnifier. Works wonders, but nowhere close to an R8/9.

Stop down metering does not work as "advertised" The further you stop down,
the more overexposed the photo becomes. I am talking about in Aperture
metering mode or in Manual metering mode. The meter lies. You need to
compensate the more you stop down. +/- override in A mode, or just ignore
the meter in manual mode. Focus and meter wide open, then if you stop down
3 stops, just do the same for the shutter (slow it down) and ignore the fact
that the meter tells you that you are grossly underexposed.

Those are my two major gripes. They both, of course, slow you down a lot.
For some things that is no big deal. For others it is a deal breaker and I
pop on a Canon lens. Other gripes are common with all digital SLR's I've
handled. Too many buttons and dials and whistles. The viewfinder on the
newer XSi is better, as is the control placements, but if you are serious
about this and know for sure this is what you want to do, opt for the 50D or
5D and get a much better viewfinder. If you are just getting your feet wet,
then the XSi is a logical way to go. (I have to say that as that was my way
to go)

Can't complain too much about the pictures. I shoot RAW. They are as
expected from a 10 MP camera and better than Canon glass would produce. OK
DMR users, I know your 10 MP is in a class by itself. I meant comparing with
Nikon, Canon and Olympus.

I, too, am hoping the R10 is a reality and will be within my price range. I
am fairly sure of the former, and not at all expecting the latter to be
true.

Any more questions?

Aram
