This rumour has surfaced repeatedly over the last few years.
Olympus admit that the continuing losses bring rumours, but it is the camera
div. that does the research for the medical division & is why Oly holds a 70%
share (worldwide) of the very profitable endoscope market. Photo losses are
just a cost of doing business for Olympus. And, Oly just halved their losses,
by moving their factory from China to Vietnam. They now have a huge
investment, there, which they need to recover - not write off.
They may reduce the size of their photo division, but I doubt they'll ever
close it.
