G'Mornin' Bill, and all...
Back on Sunday, I wrote, in part,
Software for the M-8 was contracted out to a firm connected, I believe,
with Sinar - which was later purchased by Leica. Sorry, can't remember
the name of the firm, but I understand that it was their software
division that attracted Leica to Sinar."
I did a little more research and had an epiphany moment in the middle of the
night, which together gives me a clearer picture.
The firm that wrote the firmware for the M8 and DM-R was Jenoptik
(
https://www.jenoptik.com/) which turns out to be a giant of a company, and not
related to Sinar at all. My bad.
Whether they wrote the firmware for later Leica digital cameras, I do not know.
Some rumours say that after the M8, software development was moved in-house,
but I cannot confirm that.
All this is a minor point for most of us, but a big error for a photography
historian!
I hope this sets the record straight.
David.
