All: I neglected to add that there are a few dSLRs, which have a P&S style "live view" function. This is accomplished by using a second sensor to "fire up" the back panel display. The drawback is that light (often 25 to 35% of it) must be redirected way from the eyepiece, to this second sensor, which results in a dimmer viewfinder. With Autofocus cameras, the view is already dimmed because other light has been diverted to the AF sensors. But, then you don't need as bright a finder with these systems, for the camera is doing the focusing for you. Some people prefer this "live view", and don't mind the dimmer finder. Others, such as Doug Herr and myself, value a bright finder above all else. Different strokes for different folks.
