Very nice and fun series, Peter. Question on Klimt images - the gold areas in
both images, When you were “up close and personal” in the same space with the
panels could you tell if the artist used actual gold leaf applique or just a
very glossy paint?
What an interesting building the Secession Museum is! The round tree/leafed
accent peice on the roof is stunning.
The display of the keys set down in what I assume is a walkway is both lovely
and wonderful in its installation but incredibly sad for what it represents.
Thanks for them all.
Best regards,
Peter S.

In 1902 a major exhibit was held there. Gustav Klimt painted a set of murals
interpreting Beethoven's 9th Symphony. This section evokes the darkness,
empty pleasure-seeking and search for meaning Klimt heard in the early
movements of the symphony:

And this panel shows the final "Ode to Joy" movement:

August Rodin came to the exhibit. And another French visitor found things to
his taste.

Here is a Holocaust memorial in the Servitengasse neighborhood. It pairs
old-fashioned house keys with the names of the "vanished neighbors."

On our last night in Vienna, we went to the outskirts of the city for a
typical Austrian dinner with our young friends David and Victoria:
