Aram - I have the selenium version too. It's
pretty accurate at higher light levels, but a bit
off at lower ones. Does this one react?

Well, I went back yesterday to see the camera and get photos of it for
posting. He also found more equipment, like a 135 Hector lens. I was going
to take the battery out of the meter, but could not find any. Then I see it
is a LeicaMeter MC, NOT MR. The MC uses a selenium cell and does not have a
battery. Mystery solved.

If properly installed, the meter is coupled to the shutter dial. You
manually transfer the reading (f-stop) to the lens. That's it!
David.
Should know better than to doubt you. If I get to see it again I will------
look. When I said I could not figure out the meter, I did not mean it
was not working. The needle was responding to changes in light, but I
just could not figure out what to do with it. But I should check to see
if the battery is intact or leaking.

Aram, Bill.
My M3 d/s came with a Leicameter MR, which does use a battery. The
original, selenium version did not.
Both are shown here:

For info the Leicameter. No battery required; I used to use one on
my M4.

Batteries for the meter are nigh impossible to get, these days, as
they were mercury batteries.
That probably explains why it does not work. There are
replacements, Wien air cells, etc., but you'd have to buy one to
test the meter.
As for price ... ???
David.
Hi. A friend of mine knows a friend who knows a person who has------
a nice M3 single throw, with case, 50/2 dual range lens and MC
meter attached and a case left to her by her late husband. I
think he is was the original owner. Through that chain, it found
me as the only person she knows who is familiar with Leica, but
my experience is R based, not M based. I checked it out and it
seems to be in fine, make that very fine condition. I could not
figure out the lightmeter, but it did respond to light. It was
really fun handling such a nice piece of gear. At any rate, the
second person in the chain said he would help the first person
in the chain sell it, but I have no idea what to say it is worth
other than what I have seen on E-bay. My guess is around $90-
$1000 for the body, $600 for the lens as it lacks the goggles,
maybe $85 for the meter and maybe $30 for the case? Am I way
off base or does this sound reasonable?
