If your hand size will grip the R8/9 you'll find that the controls fall under your fingers like no other camera. Its ergonomics are simply amazing! R8's are around, reasonably priced. However, be warned that early R8's that were built in Germany, may need an upgrade before they will properly work with the winder, motor or DMR. I understand that the later units, made in Portugal, are fine. Besides having one of the best finders in the business, you also have the advantage of being able to upgrade to digital (the DM-R) if you wish to go that route, later. In past, I've owned the R3, R5, and R6, but have kept on with an old SL and the R8 because of their finders and ruggedness. (I think you could pound nails with the SL!) I went digital in May of 05 and, sadly, haven't shot a frame of film since. Last January, I switched my Canon 20D (with adapter for Leica glass) for the DM-R digi-back for my R8. The results are startlingly better than anything produced by the Canon. :-) It has some foibles and it's not for everybody. But, for me, it's the best picture making machine I've ever experienced.
