I think what happened when the camera was originally bumped is that the light 
baffle at the bottom of the viewfinder eyepiece was jostled out of position, 
and your "repair" thump knocked it back into place.  The shutter speed mask is 
quite securely fixed to the viewscreen.

This is not a prism de-silvering problem.  Gunk happens, don't worry about it.
