I didn't try mounting glass (I am sure it is the same as the rebel, 10D and 20D), but the viewfinder sure looks small. I had a 20D and 350D side by side at Ritz and I much preferred the larger view of the 20D. The XT's view was like looking through a very tiny window. None of the view compared with the R8. Bright, easy to focus viewfinders are a must, especially if you are focusing in stopped down mode as you would with Leica glass attached. They did not have any of the Canon big guns in the store for me to look at. I wonder if the prisim used in the more expensive Canon bodies improves things over the mirrors in the consumer models.

Hello everybody,

Just wondering, has anybody tried to mount Leica
glasses on this new Canon body (350D)? It is 8MP, and
from the review, the results are almost the same as
the bigger brother i.e. 20D.

Review link:

Comparison of 20D vs 350D/XT:

White Paper on 350D (or XT in US):
http://www.usa.canon.com/html/PMA/pdf/Rebel%20XT%20WP.pdf

The down side, is that the viewfinder (which I think
will be one of the key points for those of us using
L-glasses), has a magnification of 0.8 and a smaller
view finder ... But this is just "on paper". I wonder
in practical terms - does this make much difference in
the ability to focus easily with the Leica glasses?

Care to share?

I think "on paper" the 350D has lots of potential:

We are looking at US$900 instead of US$1400 for 20D
.... and my guess, will be, very likely an upgrade
will be due in 2 years....

350D is light (540g wh batt) .. perhaps even can carry
it as a second body (or 1st body) on top of another
film camera ..heh! heh!
