Hi Aram, I wonder which Leica wide angles (beyond say 24mm) are of premium quality? My understanding is that in the R mount the pickings get slimmer as the angles get wider and looking to a Zeiss or 'whomever' gets to be a reasonable choice. The M's on the other hand have some splendid 'film' lenses to choose from ranging from cheep voightlanders to pricey Leica's, but that Digital really put a cat amongst the pidgeons as far as image quality goes. That the M mount's narrow lens to sensor distances make color shifts, chromatic abberations, and other anomalies, a 'right nightmare' to cope with as a lens/camera designer and makes seamless usage by photog's a near impossibility. Anyway... what's the options here? r/. ________________________________ [---Insert Irony Here---] ________________________________ ________________________________ From: Aram Langhans <leica_r8@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: leicareflex@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tue, December 7, 2010 12:06:09 PM Subject: [LRflex] Re: R glass on Nikon question - hopefully the last one That is probably what I am going to do. In comparing the different brands and slightly different ranges in the super-wide arena, there are not real outstanding Leica quality lenses out there. They all have strong points and weak points and compromises no matter which one you get. Tokina's Achilles heel is pretty high CA and far edge performance at the widest settings, probably due to the CA. Yet I have been using it to make useful images for about two years now, so if I can't significantly improve on its performance in a Nikon mount, it makes sense to save some bucks and get it in Nikon mount.
