Good point!
I eventually sold my R6 because of this incompatibility, replacing it with
an RE as my second to the R8.
Funny. I found the R8 to R6 switch problem to be one of size and intuitive
control placement.
For me, the SL provides the perfect no-battery-needed backup to the heavily
electronic R8. Size and balance match the R8 very well. I would not have
thought the RE would be a suitable backup for the R8, though I understand
it's a great camera. :)
As I said, my fears of computer driven cameras rests on my inherent
suspicion of electronics, having spent 30 years in that business. Still,
the Canon AE-1, the first computerized camera, was introduced in 1973 and
thousands of them are going strong.
I'm coming 58, so if my R8 lasts another 30 years, as the AE-1's have, it
will probably see me out!
