Hi Kevin,

nice to hear there's another member here in Germany - I think we are three now, an American in Hamburg, a Brit in Hannover (me) and now you in Stuttgart.

Welcome to the merry band!

(SL and SL2/SL2Mot and R3 to R7 (no R4) user)

David,

Thank you for the kind words of welcome. I actually want to get some really good photos. Currently living Stuttgart, Germany so there are plenty of opportunities, although Asia is my preferred stomping ground. Can hardly wait for R8 to arrive. Kevin

Hello,

I have been looking at your pictures w/comments for a couple of weeks on this forum. This may be the wrong place to ask, but I just purchased a used Leica R8 and a Leica-R 35mm F2.0 lens (1982 vintage). I bought both on ebay. I had purchased a Leica R4 but a camera repair store in The Netherlands told me the body was a complete wreck. So I bid on the R8 which I just purchased yesterday and have yet to receive via mail. Question: can I just attach the lens to the R8, focus, and set aperature/speed based upon light meter readout in viewfinder and shoot?

I have used a Leica Digilux 2 for three years and I enjoy the camera immensely, but I want to do black and white and I don't like the shutter delay. Also shooting Hasselblad 500CM, but just learning that as well. Decided I wanted a 35mm for flexibility.

Cheers,
Kevin

HI Kevin!

Welcome to the Zoo!

You'll love the R8. Over the years, I've owned the SL, R3, R5, R6, R8 & R9. The R8/9 is the nicest camera I've ever used... results, with the DMR added, are spectacular.

It's big and bulky, but it fits your and like a glove. I set mine to A and spot metering, and that's it!

If you have more questions, you'll find the guys & gals here have a huge store of knowledge on anything Leica and photographic in general ... and we're all most willing to help.

So, like I said... Welcome!

Cheers!

David (zoo keeper) Young.
