The GNU project is the actual basis of Linux. Linus Torvald wrote a Unix like kernel, but the utilities provided by GNU provided everything else to make a working OS. The interest this generated then provided the huge informal infrastructure of volunteer labor to develop and test reliable software. Any distribution of Open Source software (Linux is the most common) is a worthwhile alternative to Windows. The more recent Linuxes support quite a lot of imaging hardware. Pratt & Whitney and Hamilton Sundstrand have moved most of our real time test equipment to Linux years ago. -- Charlie Falke _____ /\ | __/\__/------/__) |(____\/_________/ "One test result is worth | |/ `o one thousand expert opinions" - Wernher Von Braun 0 N4003M "Imagination is more important than knowledge" - Albert Einstein ------ Unsubscribe or change to/from Digest Mode at: http://www3.telus.net/~telyt/lrflex.htm Archives are at: //www.freelists.org/archives/leicareflex/
