There is a story told among rodeo folk...
"When you decide you want to ride bulls, you fill your mouth with marbles and
enter the Junior Steer Riding events.
Each time you get injured, you spit out one marble. When you've lost all your
marbles, you're ready to ride the bulls."
---
The young lads who want to become bull riders start out at ages 13 through 15
riding steers.
Quite often cows are used, even if is the "Junior Steer Riding" event, as they
generally don't buck quite as hard. Ideal for beginners.
Helmets & other protective gear are required and the bull-fighters run
alongside the lads, to ensure help is nearby, in case of any troubles...
Sometimes, they get a little too close for their own comfort ...
