Philippe mon ami, All are very interesting as beautiful B&W photographs can be. HOWEVER? Don't you hate it when I say that? ;-) > http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Phileica/Switzerland/Premier+de+Cordee-1010609-2.jpg.html I like this. But if you crop the foreground off up to and including the little clump of white stones, approximately 2"? off the bottom it seems to create a better balanced feeling. The foreground isn't as eye dominant allowing our eyes to see deeper into the photograph and the walking man and an over all nice feeling. > http://gallery.leica-users.org/d/231472-1/Premier+de+Cordee-1010615.jpg Again this is interesting even though we sort of see horses, we don't see their heads! Half bodies because they're all head down eating therefore their bodies are cut off and headless. I'm sure this would've been a much better picture if their heads were up. "HOW DO YOU GET THE HEADS UP EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE EATING?" You whistle as loud as you can! Do that and the heads will pop up maybe looking in your diection, maybe not. But at least you'd have a full animal than cut in half . > http://gallery.leica-users.org/d/231476-1/Premier+de+Cordee-1010614.jpg Gorgeous! A beauty for the cabin wall about 30X40 inches framed in a dark wood frame. It's what we call a "WOW!" picture and you hang on it looking at all the little bits and pieces all over, clouds, rocks, mountain edges, whatever. This is a picture that screams out to be shown as big as possible simply because of the content! "BIG SCENE NEEDS VERY BIG PRINT SIZE!" It's sort of, you can't see it big enough. :-) > http://gallery.leica-users.org/d/231480-1/Premier+de+Cordee-1010582.jpg Then we come to this absolutely magnificent photograph! If the previous one "1010614" was a WOW? This is a triple WOW SUPER FANTASTIC WOWWIE!" So OK now that I've built it up so much how can I possibly say anything negative? Dang but here it is and as soon as you look at the photo you'll say... " Damn why didn't I wait one minute?" Look at the people, the first person is standing clean against the black , look at the glow separating her almost off the page! Yep the others sort of stand out, however not as clean as the first girl. The last two, particularly the second last person with the highlighted hill edge cutting through his body! See that one little thing? DAMN! spoils the super wowie effect. :-( Yep it's still a beautiful photograph but it only get's 2 silver stars instead of the SUPER GOLD RING! And all because you didn't wait maybe only 30 seconds for the last two people to move so slightly up the path into that clean black background. Yeah I know some folks are going to say "well you're second guessing the team leader on Monday morning and easy for me to do" Yep, but that's life, get over it! Do you know what? That's what makes a photographer sharper and look harder at the next scene he's shooting just for those tiny little things he missed before. It's called "Tough Love!" cheers, Dr. ted ------ Unsubscribe or change to/from Digest Mode at: http://www.lrflex.furnfeather.net/ Archives are at: //www.freelists.org/archives/leicareflex/
