Yes Aram,
both shots were RAW and already processed in Lightroom 1.4.1.
I think the problem may be in the ISO settings of 800 or 1600,
although Canon shows only minimum noise at these speeds. If I use the
noise filters, I also lose resolution.
More when I've experimented a bit more.

I've a couple more I'm working on - the problem is they are so dark
that lightening them at all begins to make a lot of blotchy noise in
the shadows - has anyone any ideas (apart from ditching them completely)
