This is from the part of Leica that used to be called Wild Heerbrugg.
Historically they made microscopes, transits, theodolites, cameras for
the U-2, that sort of thing.

Yes, I know that.
Their (Wild) M7/M8 is still considered the Rolls Royce of stereo
microscopes. It cuses no headache or fatigue after prolonged use. Something
I can't say for Zeiss Stemi...
