Very good series, David! I especially like the last photo. This farrier seems to be one of the better ones, measuring the angle at least (some just eyeball it). Using as few nails as nessesary to keep the shoe on is another sign of a good farrier, as is PICKING UP THE @#*! TRIMMED ENDS OF THE NAILS!!

Oh... so you've had flat tires, too, eh?

Actually, Doug, we had nails everywhere! One of the horses (we shod 2 & trimmed 3 that morning) was being difficult, and when jumping around, put her hind foot into the farrier's kit-box and got it caught in the handle. This, of course, made her panic, and she jumped around for a few seconds, until she freed her foot. Meanwhile, nails, tools and box flew everywhere!

Sadly, I did not get a shot of that, for I was close to the horse and jumped back when it all started. By the time I could again raise the camera to my eye, it was over.

Took me a half hour with a magnet on a string, to pick up all the nails & find the tools!

Thanks for looking!
