Last night, Rose and I drove down to Merritt (a half hour away) to see our old
friend, Harpdog Brown (yes, Harpdog is his real name - I've seen his passport!)
play at a pub, along with Jordy Edmonds, and a new fellow, "Sugar Brown".
Harpdog, BTW, has just won the Maple Blues award for the Best Blues Harmonica
Player in Canada - for the second year running!
Now, I've shot in many a pub, but this place was darker than "the black hole of
Calcutta", as the old expression goes. Not lousy lighting - no lighting on the
band, at all!
How "Sugar" could see, at all, in that lighting, with his very dark shades, I
have no idea. But he seemed to get by!
I was shooting at ISO 3200 & 6400 and the results are reminiscent of Tri-X
exposed at ASA 1600 and "pushed" with Diafine. Grainy, nasty.
Even employing an old Super Takumar 50/1.4, exposures were 1/15 to 1/30th ...
which would not be so bad, except that they're musicians, and they move when
they play! (Guess I should have taken the old 55/1.2. [sigh]
Given the circumstances, I'm sort of pleased. See for yourself...
