And that is all that matters, Sonny. Personal preference and if the
drama is what you are going for, then that is what you want. I hope in
all my comment that has come across. I sometimes like my prints dark
and moody and other times bright and cheerful. And we can do that now
with digital whereas before with slide film that was not really easy to
change moods w/o making a dupe of dubious quality. B&W was akin to
digital in that if you did your own printing you could make many prints
all looking slightly different with different moods.

I think they both look pretty good, but mine has more drama in the
background and texture in the petals.

Hi Sonny!------
If I may chime in... On my calibrated monitor, Aram's version is brighter, but
a long way from having any blown highlights. And the petals look more like
actual Blackberry flowers.
And, like Aram, my monitor matches what I get from Costco ... who use properly
calibrated Fuji Frontiers ... for the prints that I sell.
Just my 2 cents worth.
David.

Not a bit. But on my screen, I see blown highlights in the flower
petals on the one you did. Though they both look nice to me, viewed
individually.

It is indeed a nice shot. We are a long ways from flowers here.As far as dark, we have had this discussion before. They look dark on
my calibrated monitors, too. Personal preference I am sure. I have my
brightness set to about 110 cd/m2 as it gives me good agreement between
my screen and prints I make either on
my printer or at Costco. I tried a little experiment. I downloadedhttp://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Aram/misc/m/DSC2631+comparison.jpg.html
Sonny's image and put it in PS and overlaid the histogram. Not much
on the white end. Then I adjusted the white balance with the
histogram and overlaid that histogram. It is more to
my liking, but it is not my image. Here are the results for
comparison. View large to see the histogram better.
hope you don't mind, Sonny.

Yes, they are blackberry blooms. Each stamen turns into a seed on aIf you're not teasing about the dark, (which I don't see on three

monitors, a iPad Pro, and my iPhone X) then perhaps you need to check
your monitor, or resign yourself that I'm shooting in situ, available
light, and where I find them. I usually spend
much more time editing than shooting, and my aim is always a pleasant
image drawing attention to the bloom. I usually subdue the background
as much as possible, avoiding blooming (heh) of the whites. Thus this
image not only has vignette applied, but I've
also dodged bright spots in the bokeh.

Good morning, Sonny. You have a wonderful image there, I think. :)
The light and the textures of the petals and the foliage are great,
but why so dark... :) Seriously, thank you for the image. Do you have
any idea as to what
the white flowers are named? I have never seen a white petal flower
with some many stamen, before.
