Hi Rich!
Greetings from beautiful, downtown, Grand Rapids, Minnesota!
"Upgrading" a "gaming" machine to edit photos is easy. There are lots of good,
free programs available just for downloading & installing.
Gamers usually have high performance machines, so even a "cast off", should be
good!
If you want a simple, easy to use program that will allow you to do basic
edits, cropping, resizing and more, go for FastStone Image Viewer. I
recommend it for all my beginning students, and use it extensively, myself.
Get it here: http://www.faststone.org/ ;(Windoze only, sorry.)
If you wish to develop RAW photos, there are a number of good, free raw
developers out there. I use RawTherapee, which I find very fast, and
excellent.
Get version 5.4 (latest) for Windoze or Macs, here:

If you want to do more elaborate editing, and do not wish to spend any money,
GIMP (the Gnu Image Manipulation Program) is a decent alternative to Photoshop,
Learn more here: https://www.gimp.org/
Click on the download link (at top) to get a version for your OS. (Windoze,
Linux & OS-X available.)
There is more, much more, but I'm on the road and not thinking clearly.
Just download, install & start processing your photos. We'd love to see some!
Best regards,
David.
Sonny,
Thank you. I posted that message because of what I perceived to be the
correct thing to do from David's May 27th post concerning the DGPR
regulations. I feel that it is some what of an honor and a privilege to
belong to this group of highly cultured, educated and just plain
friendly people who happen to be excellent photographers. I have not
ever posted anything because I want to upgrade my computer that I got
from my daughter's significant other. He is a "Gamer" and there is no
image editing program on this machine. I always look forward to your
Friday Flowers posts. They are to me to be a precision extraction of
beauty and tranquility from this chaotic world.
Best.
