the biggest issue I have with Live vue is the horrendous shutter lag with no good work around available.

Andy,
Lag needs to be negligible, that's a non-negotiable.
I know that's going to be possible to fix once
they put the appropriate logic in the sensor support chip.
This will be achieved eventually because it's only a matter
of faster and denser electronics.  From the market side
of things it should be driven by the convergence of
video and still cameras.
My first imagining of how a digital Leica should look
was a sensor flextaped to a module the size of a film cassette.
You would load it as an alternate to film.  This is
completely possible, somebody tried it awhile back but the
performance was terrible.  It's just a matter of time.
For a look at the impossible, have a look at the
state of the art for sensor size today,
80mm X 80mm, and 85 Mpixels:

Not affordable today for sure, but remember how things go with
digital gear:
Computers in future may weigh no more than 1.5 tons.

It was said that heavier-than-air flight, rockets
leaving the atmosphere, radio, and atomic energy
were all absolutely impossible, usually the most
vehemently just before they were achieved.
