Wow! Well done, sir. Well captured, indeed, considering the conditions. But
enough of a recognized global celebrity pro - did you get any shots of the
important little people out on the ice who were being inspired?! :)
Ice skating has always been just magical for me. I’ve never tried it before;
but just to see anybody glide, fly, or sprawl across the ice is a wonder to a
Florida Cracker. Now, add in the acrobatics of figure folks and…the fighting
for hockey folks, and I just have to shake my head in admiration - I don’t know
how they stay upright at such speeds, much less get back up in a heartbeat when
things go to ground or ice as the case may be. But there’s something I’ve
always wondered about and I gotta ask if there’s a direct positive correlation
between the population of ice skaters in a community and the number of resident
Chiropractors and/or Emergency Medical Technicians? :)
Best regards,
Peter S.

It's true! Elvis is in the building... as I type!
Elvis Stojko (named for Presley) is a legend in Canadian figure skating.
Elvis is a two time Olympic Silver Medalist, three time World Champion and
seven times Canadian Champion.
He and his wife, Mexican figure skater & model, Gladys Orozco, are here in
Logan Lake, this weekend... giving a figure skating workshop for our local
figure skating club.
As excitement goes, in a small town of just 2,000 people, it doesn't get much
better!
Yesterday, the kids put on a show and Elvis put in a cameo appearance, on the
ice. Some 400 people turned out for the event - whereas usually you get the
parents & grandparents of the kids & that's it.
Lighting in our local Rec. Center is abysmal, so I set the minimum shutter
speed to 1/800th (figuring the kids don't move THAT fast) and let Auto ISO do
it's thing. With the 75/1.8 on board, ISO varied from 2,500 to 6,400 and the
results were not pretty.
So here is Elvis' performance, in 7 photos...

I don't know what this maneuver is called, but he's 47. I could not do that
when I was 27!

Mid-spin. A pro makes it look easy, but when you see his expression, you
realize it really is not!
