In 1872, former Governor of California, Leland Stanford, had made a bet
that all four of a horse's hooves were off the ground at the same time,
when running.. He hired a photographer, Eadweard J. Muybridge, to prove it.
Muybridge made a now famous series of photos, using large format cameras,
each triggered by a trip wire, as the horse ran by.
Stanford was right...
