Actually, neither is a dory. -). The red one looks like a converted------
lifeboat, and the other is a proper skiff, similar to a Newfoundland.
Boats like that are terrific for rowing as they have a long shallow
keel. They make pretty good sailboats with a sprit rig but slow on the
wind. It has lovely lines with the lapstrake hull.
A dory is most often characterized by a flat bottom. Not nearly so good
for rowing, but strong and can be easily beached.
